how are the cool girls displaying photos? a few ideas & projects for good measure x
Whether you're a DIY queen or you just want to buy a cute frame and call it a day, I've got you covered.
In my corner of the internet, people appear to be craving tangible memories. Now, admittedly, we all live our web lives in tiny feedback loops so this doesn’t mean much - but my feed is full of junk journalling, memory boxes, aesthetically crafted photo books and homemade magazines. Sentimental time capsules in various forms.
(And cats. Many cats.)
It makes me think about photos; rather the opposite of what you might assume given the whole TikTok gig, I’ve always been very camera shy. Actually, let’s call a spade a spade: I’ve always felt awkward in front of a lens. Deeply, visibly awkward.
Even now, I still view having my photo taken as a necessary evil. Note the necessary there - having lived in 3 different countries and met amazing friends in all, photos are often the only things I have of people for years at a time.
Anyways, maybe it’s getting older (she says at 25, the worn out hag) but the desire to see little immortalised versions of my friends and family has hit. Cue some of my favourite ideas for having teeny tiny faces up around my house!
1. DIY Bow Polaroid Holders
Is it a bit narcissistic to talk about wanting photos of my friends and immediately jump into how I display pictures of myself? Let’s not pull on that thread.
After our trip to Bali last year, we had an insane amount of Polaroids and it would’ve felt criminal to just stick them in an album to gather dust. My first idea was to repurpose these gold bow wall hooks as little photo displays. All I did was glue some ribbon to the back of some photos, tie the ends into a bow and ta-da! A cute addition to our home’s gallery wall was born.
If that mangled explanation was somehow not clear enough for you, a tutorial of sorts is below:
2. Make A Wall-Mounted Memory Box
Confession time: I loved this idea so much that I made two . . . and I already have plans for a third. I’ll write a more in-depth post about my second memory box as it was a bit more of a process (it involved a staple gun, not to brag) but, if you’re after something quick and easy, this option fits the bill!
All I used for this mini-craft was a glass shadow box from West Elm and some cute pins.

3. Use Photos To Decorate Your Journal Covers
Another idea I love is adding photos to your notebook covers. If you’re anything like me, your notebooks are practically part of the furniture - so your photos will be getting their air time!
For our recent trip back home to the UK, (check out my last post of London travel recommendations if you missed that!) I created a dedicated travel journal and used some photobooth piccies to decorate the cover.
well, friends, we shall end at the end!
I hope you enjoyed this post - and were inspired to find some new ways to creatively display photos around your home. Let me know what your favourite option was down below.
